EyeIgnite Presumed Off Team SoloMid, Will Play With Triple Trouble This Weekend

With the qualifiers for Dreamhack Montreal rapidly approaching, teams are starting to announce their rosters ahead of tomorrow's full reveal on the tournament website. One wrinkle thrown into the mix was that Team SoloMid's EyeIgnite will join Triple Trouble in place of Kassio for this weekend's qualifiers. Shortly after the news broke EyeIgnite took to Reddit to add insight as, predictably, questions started swirling about his status with TSM. EyeIgnite's now presumably former teammate Remkoe didn't appreciate what was said.

A comment was made pointing out that just 9 days ago EyeIgnite had posted, "I told both Remkoe and Mets that I do not ever want another team. We're all on the same page." Another poster then questioned whether EyeIgnite was being disingenuous with that statement, or if the other two had agreed with that statement and then kicked him. EyeIgnite's response was simple: "The latter is true."

That response brought out Remkoe who has never been shy on social media. He once infamously told EyeIgnite on Twitter that "one day you'll be good enough to understand" in the midst of a frustrating season in which his Team EnvyUs squad went from reigning World Champions to nearly relegated out of the Rocket League Championship Series. In responses to EyeIgnite on Reddit today, Remkoe wrote: "Actually neither of it is true. But anything to start drama I guess."

"For months we were all motivated to grow as a team and do well, which is something we always worked towards," Remkoe continued. "Is there any team out there that doesn't have this mindset? Realistically, is there any team that will never make a roster change? ... The way you replied to that really came across like you tried to put Metsa and I in a bad spot, making people think that all three of us already agreed after Valencia to stick together for the rest of the year and backstabbed you afterwards. This is simply just not true so I'm not sure why the comment was necessary." Remkoe added that he did not want to bring this out in public but felt EyeIgnite's comments made that necessary. "It doesn't seem like you want to talk in private, so why does it have to be on Reddit?"

EyeIgnite responded by accusing Remkoe of lying, saying he was not going to make this public unless one of "you," referring to Remkoe or Metsanauris, "blatantly tried to lie about us deciding to stay a team through bad results." EyeIgnite added that they had this conversation "multiple times."

The most recent public exchange between the two belongs to Remkoe, who clarified that "We have agreed to stick together after bad results of specific events, yes. We have never agreed to ride out our entire careers in this exact same team, I don't know where you're getting this from." He went on to point out the business nature of esports, and that it's very common for rosters to change. In closing, "we have been as honest/transparent as we could since deciding this after Valencia."

Elsewhere in the Reddit thread, EyeIgnite has reiterated that he wasn't going to put anything out there that would make Remkoe and Metsanauris look bad, but he did hint that he is capable of doing so. No official announcement has come out from Team SoloMid or its team members regarding the status of EyeIgnite or any potential replacements. The team's substitute from this past RLCS season, Aztral, has been rumored as Turbopolsa's replacement on Dignitas after playing with the team at Dreamhack Valencia.

Since signing with Team SoloMid over the winter the team has posted a 4-5 record against North American teams in top-level competition, aided greatly by a strong runner-up finish at Dreamhack Dallas. Other results include a sixth-place result in the past RLCS season, while failing to advance to the second day of competition at the other two Dreamhacks in Leipzig and Valencia. It has been a rocky first half of 2019 for last year's ELEAGUE Cup Champions, and a change seemed inevitable going into the next season of RLCS.

There is another layer to all of this. With EyeIgnite playing for Triple Trouble this weekend, the question of Kassio's future has to be raised. The Frenchman was brought in to replace Speed, who left the team to join The Bricks after winning the World Showdown of Esports with the team in January. Kassio's departure has been speculated on by many this offseason, and this may be the catalyst for a number of roster changes to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

Full rosters for Dreamhack Montreal qualifiers will not officially be released until Friday, when all of the seeding is confirmed. Open qualifiers will be played Saturday, feeding into closed qualifiers on Sunday. There are no automatic invites for Montreal, with all of the teams entering via qualifiers, the WorldGaming North American Championship, or open signup.
