GEXCON

This weekend, Rocket League took the stage once again on the east coast of the United States as GEXCon hosted a 3v3 tournament with a $2,500 USD prize pool. WORLDGAMING NETWORK QUALIFIER

Almost 400 teams registered for the first of four Open Qualifiers for the WorldGaming Network North American Championship. The winning team of each qualifier will advance directly to August's Grand Final at FAN EXPO Canada in Toronto. Eight wildcard teams will go into a closed online qualifier with the top three teams being added to those finals. The eighth and final spot will go to the winner of the open live qualifier held at FAN EXPO Canada the weekend of the Grand Final. The champions of the event will earn a spot at Dreamhack Montreal in September with hotel & travel paid for.

The first team to qualify for those finals was the newly signed Noble (zombiepoopshark, Alphakep, Astroh) after defeating Linked Up (Sosa, Skillz, JoeFreshness) in both the Winners & Grand Finals.

Some of last year's Canadian Challenge contenders were scattered throughout this first qualifier, including JoeFreshness and Trey among others. That event was only open to Canadians, where this event is open to all of North America. Of the top 16 teams in this qualifier, 11 featured all American starting rosters according to Liquipedia, including Noble. The only team with multiple Canadians was Linked Up, with both Sosa and JoeFreshness residing in Canada. Including subs, only 7 Canadian players finished in the top 16 of the first qualifier. Three more open qualifiers will be played over the next three weekends.

ROCKET LEAGUE JAPAN SERIES

With all eyes on Asia as the presumed next region in line to join the RLCS, the Japan Series Finals were played out on Saturday between HANAGUMI TENKYU (Raqua, Wave, Maru), Justice Esports Zero (Dore52x, Gucchi, Neomoto Putti), and 1NE Glory Stone (Akira90, Kanra, ReaLize). Glory Stone went in as the heavy favorites following a 9-1 League Play campaign. The only loss came to Justice Esports Zero, which also finished 9-1. Third-place contenders HANAGUMI TENKYU put up a fight against Justice despite a 5-5 finish to its season, taking the first game in overtime but ultimately falling 4-2, leaving the top two teams in the league to square off for the Championship.

In the final, 1NE Glory Stone reminded everyone why they are the top team in the land with a 4-2 victory over Justice Esports Zero. In that final, the top three goal scorers were all three members of Glory Stone. Kanra led the way with 7 goals while ReaLize and Akira90 each added 6 of their own. They both added 9 saves as they outscored the opposition 19-10 in the finals.

ESL MASTERS ESPAÑA SEASON 5

Similar to the Rocket League Championship Series, ESL Masters has a Promotion Playoff. The main difference is that the bottom two teams from the ESL Masters League Play each play a single match against one of two teams from the league's Relegations Playoffs. On Sunday, both League Play teams avoided relegation with Villareal CF (Swazer, Itsulen, Hadry) shutting out Espectro Esports (B1naryDem0n, AaronSenta, Lete_7) in 3 out of 5 games to win 4-1. The Beşiktaş JK (ByJesuxEsP, LuXxoR, EvilWolf) team played through three overtimes against Malaka Team (Cruzz, JiiYee, Zadock) to win 4-2 and retain its spot in ESL Masters Season 6.
